Made: Handmade by skilled artisans using traditional braiding and leatherworking techniques. Marea works with communities of women artisans across Latin America who handweave many of the brand's signature leather uppers from their homes and family ateliers. 

Sustainability: Produced thoughtfully and in small batches to avoid overproduction, using premium natural materials chosen to age beautifully over time. Each pair supports artisan communities practicing traditional, generations-old craft techniques — ethically made and rooted in slow fashion rather than trend-driven production.

Marea New York was founded by Maria G. López, who wove together her childhood summers on Spain's Mediterranean coast with the artisan sandal-making traditions she encountered on her travels through South America. Every pair is handmade in collaboration with communities of women artisans who handweave the brand's signature leather uppers from their own homes and family ateliers, preserving generations-old techniques while creating opportunities within their communities. The result is women's handmade leather footwear built for longevity — sandals meant to move from beach to city and be worn for years, not seasons.
